The Indian comedy sketch group known as All India Bakchod was thrust into fame last year with a controversial roast of celebrities, something which is quite common in America, that offended almost everyone in the country. Opening up a debate of free-speech and inappropriate behaviour, the AIB group have since maintained a low profile, creating parody videos with celebrities like Irrfan Khan and general humour.
However, a video made by veteran of the group Tanmay Bhatt, has created another controversy as his video insults some famous personalities, and the who’s who of Bollywood are weighing in with their outrage.
Tanmay Bhatt of AIB creates a video that insults Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar.
The video in question, roasts the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and the iconic singer Lata Mangeskar with comedy stylings that are more relegated to insult comedy than general humour. While the AIB roast featured similar comedy, the one element that worked in AIB’s defense was that the people being mocked were present and involved, implying their permission. In this case however, neither Tendulkar nor Mangeshkar permitted, nor would ever allow this sort of comments made regarding themselves.
But it seems obvious. It’s almost as if Bhatt took two of the most beloved people of India, and decided to mock them for the explicit purpose of the publicity and backlash from everyone.
Take a look below as some of Bollywood’s reaction to the video on Twitter:

Am absolutely shocked. Disrespect is not cool and neither is it funny. https://t.co/ymYPi9hxuv
