How Nawazuddin Siddiqui Shot A 10-Minute Scene For 5 Hours

The rise of the art house Bollywood actor can be personified by the success of one man: Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The actor who had blink and miss roles in films like ‘Sarfarosh‘ and ‘Black Friday’, is now considered one of Bollywood’s most talented actors.

For his new film ‘Raman Raghav 2.0‘, Nawazuddin Siddiqui had to shoot one 10-minute scene for 5 hours.

Making his impact felt with ‘Kahaani‘ Nawazuddin Siddiqui them oved on to become a critical darling with movies like ‘Manjhi: Mountain Man‘. His next film sees him as a psychopathic killer, directed by infamous director Anurag Kashyap. The movie, called ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’, sees Siddiqui an enigmatic character that is as charming as he is hypnotic.

How Nawazuddin Siddiqui Shot A 10-Minute Scene For 5 Hours

During the making of this, a scene required Siddiqui to do a 10 minute monologue. The speech had to be shot from multiple angles and viewpoints by the always innovative Kashyap. As a result of this, Siddiqui ended up having to give the same monologue, maintaining his tone of voice and style, for each and every shot, resulting in 5 hours of shooting the same speech.

Shooting a scene from multiple angles a few times is by no means a new way of filmmaking or storytelling. Situational comedies or TV shows with 1-camera often employ this technique to shoot dialogue of multiple character on screen. However, the duration and intensity of this monologue in the ‘Raman Raghav 2.0‘ must be something out of the ordinary to require such dedication and commitment by the actor.
